THREE SA RECORDS SHATTERED AT BEEFMASTER AUCTION

THREE SA RECORDS SHATTERED AT BEEFMASTER AUCTION

A Beefmaster breeder set two South African price records within minutes during the national Beefmaster auction on 4 July at the Afridome in S.A. Shortly afterwards, another breeder also set a South African record. All three records involved female animals.

The first record at the auction was set by a pregnant cow, BOS 18-8751, with a calf (3-in-1) that sold for R600 000. The sellers were Dennis and Burnie Staal of Bos Blanco Beefmasters, Kroonstad, and the buyers were Theo Coetzee of Majesto Beefmasters, Koster, and Paul van Vuuren of V8 Beefmasters, who farms in Bray and Bela-Bela.

Two auction lots later, Bos Blanco again exceeded the previous South African record of R450 000 with a winning bid of R550 000 for the cow BOS 20-0273, also a 3-in-1. She was sold to Rohan Meintjies of Sterkfontein Farms, Krugersdorp.

Another South African record was shattered when Wilru Campher, owner of Loumotta Beefmasters in Ventersdorp, sold a pregnant heifer, WC 21-0013, for R350 000. Meintjies was again the buyer. The previous record was R280 000.

The most expensive bull fetched R375 000. ZCW 21-0008 was sold by Christian le Roux of Gantouw Farming, Bronkhorstspruit, to Stephan de Plessis, Delta Beefmasters, Platrand (near Standerton).

It is not every day that female animals achieve higher average prices than bulls, but this time it was the case.
